I’ve got a super fun and clever summer snack idea for you…fruit kebabs at the beach!
My two littlest went gaga over these sandy fruit kebabs.
First, confusion. Then, intrigue. Then, wonder. Then, they ate it all up!
They left nothing. Not a single crumb.
Then their big brother came home from school, totally disappointed that he didn’t get in on these sandy fruit kebabs. I showed him the pictures and he had the same reactions as the little brothers.
Confusion – “Mom, is that real sand?” (He missed the grinding of the graham crackers!)
Intrigue – “Mom, they really look like they have sand on them.”
Wonder – “Mom, that’s so cool how the ‘water’ meets the sand.”
And then I gave him some of the extra fruit I’d cut up to make them. And he ate that all up!

Sandy Fruit Kebabs
Yield – 4 servings
Preparation Time – 10 minutes (+ 4 hours to chill Jello)
Cooking Time – 10 minutes
- 1 box blue Jello
- Serving platter
- 4-6 cinnamon graham crackers
- Fruit for the kebabs – any will work
- Drink umbrellas, optional
- Gummy orange slices, optional
- Prep the Jello as directed on the box and pour into the serving platter. Carefully place in the fridge and chill for 4 hours. (I did this after the kids went to bed, to minimize the spillage factor from them touching it while it was setting.)
- Once the Jello has set, grind up the graham crackers in the blender. (You could also use graham cracker crumbs, but I liked the consistency of grinding them myself. I also recommend using the cinnamon variety, for darker color and better flavor.)
- Spread the “sand” over part of the Jello. Make the kebabs and rest them in the sand.
- If you wish to add the umbrellas, anchor them into a gummy orange slice to keep them upright. Large pieces of cantaloupe could hold them up as well.
