$5 Dinner Challenge Coming Soon

by Erin, The $5 Dinner Mom on December 1, 2008

It’s finally here…….The $5 Dinner Challenge!

Your mission…if you choose to accept it…is to challenge yourself to make a wholesome, balanced meal for $??? or less!

Why the ???…Well, $5 works for me and my family. Perhaps your family is smaller…or larger…or you live in a region of the country that has much higher prices than the middle of the Midwest where I live. I’d venture to say that prices in the middle of NYC or SF are much higher than those that I see in my grocery store. I’d also venture to say that it does indeed cost more to feed a family of 8! Or even 6! Especially if teenage boys are involved :)

The goal is to set a dollar amount for yourself based on your family size and grocery prices in your region that will CHALLENGE you to make meals for less than that amount! Every one is feeling the pinch on the budget these days. Staying in one night a week and doing the $5 Dinner Challenge will save you hundreds of $$$ over the course of a year! Start with this simple way to save :)

I can’t wait to read all the inexpensive dinner recipes that you all come up with!

For a complete listing of the guidelines, click here!

It’s YOUR turn to make frugal and nutritious meals! Starting next week, every Monday night I will post a Mr. Linky for you to link up your favorite frugal dinner meal from the week.

I would love to win this e-book. I am slightly new to meal planning and strict budgeting, thanks to Dave Ramsey and our plan to get out of debt, so I would benefit greatly from this book. I love this site, and I visit often for frugal and healthy dinner ideas.

I’d love to win a cookbook. Our family is always up for new recipes. I love your site and appreciate your ideas, I have several of your recipes planned for this month and can’t wait to try them.

Dinner tonight was easy and cheap. Our Shop-N-Save had buy 10 Lipton Side Dishes for $10 and get a free Rotisserie chicken. They also had Bird’s Eye Steamer veggies 10 for $10. We had 2 free chickens (with enough chicken left over that I can make creamed chicken/gravy later this week), 2 packages of noodles ($2), 1 package of corn ($1). Total cost for dinner tonight = $3 (fed five people).

I found your blog by accident this weekend. What a blessing. I too am on the treasure hunt for nutritious meals that don't cost a fortune. I will be thinking about the challenge while I plan meals this week! I would love to have a copy of the e-book. We are a family of 6- 3 boys, 10yo & 9yo twins & 1 princess 6yo. Someone is always "starving". One of these days I'm going to have a manditory 12 hour fast so they get a better idea of the meaning of "starving". Thanks for all the great ideas. I look forward to more searching on your blog.
