Must Buy Organic Ingredients from Costco (plus what to make with them!)

If you are wanting, needing, or interested in incorporating more organic foods into your diet, but are worried about your budget suffering…don’t! While organic ingredients can be more expensive, not all of them are grossly overpriced. A few years back, I shared the complete Price List for Organic Ingredients from Costco (along with our family’s story about why we started shopping at Costco in the first place!)

Costco’s rotating inventory and regional pricing has made it a challenge to keep this list completely accurate, so please use it as a starting off point…and keep an organics price list of your own. Also, please note that Costco isn’t the only place with the amazing organic prices. My regular grocery store had organic raspberries for less than the conventional raspberries recently.

Moral of the story: keep your eyes peeled…and stock up when you can on these great deals! (I bought a bunch of the organic raspberries to freeze for smoothies!)

Back to Costco’s great selection of organic ingredients…here is a list of 12 “Must Buy” Organic Ingredients from Costco.

    1. Whole Chickens
    2. Ground Beef
    3. Frozen Vegetables
    4. Frozen Fruit
    5. Spinach or Spring Mix, clamshell
    6. Maple Syrup
    7. Canned beans
    8. Canned tomatoes
    9. Spaghetti Noodles
    10. Peanut Butter
    11. Tortilla Chips
    12. Raisins

Now that we have our list written…here’s what I would recommend preparing with these organic ingredients!

    Whole Chickens

My favorite way to prepare whole chickens is to slow cook them and then shred the meat to use for other meals.

    Ground Beef

There are hundreds of amazing ground beef recipes here on the site. And we have a new monthly “All Ground Beef” meal plan available at MyFreezEasy.com.

    Frozen Vegetables

With my style of cooking and feeding my family on a budget, I usually end up making a main meat, a side of rice or bread or pasta or potatoes, and a side of veggies. Like this…

    4-Ingredient Creamy Ranch Pork Chops

So I always have frozen veggies on hand…because they are easy…and mindless…don’t require any chopping…so quick and simple for me to add to our dinner plates, when I’m not using fresh veggies or fruit.

    Frozen Fruit

Smoothies. I also love to prepare “make ahead smoothies,” and then my boys can just drop everything into the blender with some water or milk…and I’m working myself out of the job 😉

    Spinach or Spring Mix

Salads for days…No twinge of “an expensive salad for lunch” when I’m using the Spinach or Spring Mix clamshells! Here’s my current favorite salad.

    Maple Syrup

    Cheapest, best quality…anywhere. Even Amazon.

We use it sparingly on pancakes (it doesn’t take much, because it’s a great and sweet maple!), or I’ll use it with dinner. Or use it as a base to make my own fruit-y syrup.

    Canned Beans

    Soups, chilis, side dishes.

    Canned Tomatoes

Ranchero Chicken. And soups, chilis, homemade chunky spaghetti sauce.

    Spaghetti Noodles

    Roasted Garlic & Parmesan Noodles

Spaghetti, obvi. Or this Avocado Pasta, it’s delightful and refreshing. Or these Roasted Garlic Parmesan Noodles. (Drooling, just thinking about these noodles.)

    Peanut Butter

    Make these, like right now.

    Tortilla Chips

    Salsa or guacamole. Or NACHOS.

    Raisins

We just eat them right out of the bag. And if I need to use up some different nuts, dried fruits or baking chips, I’ll mix up some Pantry Trail Mix.

I love, love, love helping people learn smarter strategies for spending less on groceries…including organic ingredients! I’d love to help you too! If you’d like more information on my Grocery Budget Makeover class, please drop your email below and I’ll send you details, including when the class is open for registration again!

What are your favorite organic ingredients to purchase from Costco?!

What if we don’t have a Costco near us or where we live?

MY favorite is the frozen fruit. It’s way healthier than dessert but still tastes sweet and makes you think you’re eating a popsicle or ice cream!

I always hesitate on the organic beef….honestly it’s a wrestle in my mind. I balk at the price and usually opt for a chub of reg ground beef from another store. How do you come to terms with it?

Thank you so much for this post, I am tired of wasting food and am looking forward to utilizing your recipes and ideas!

I love their frozen goods, I like the savings and the fact that it is not going to waste somewhere in fridge. Smoothies are the best 🙂
