Save Money by Making These Copycat Strawberry Overnight Oats at Home!

I saw the product label and knew I had to try them.

As I reached up to grab one to add to my basket, I saw the price tag.

YOUCH.

$1.99 for a 5 oz. cup…that maybe had 5 bites. Hmmmmmm.

I looked at the ingredients list and thought…I can recreate this, easy!

I grabbed a few for tasting and testing purposes.

I knew that making my own would be worth the cost savings.

Here’s a quick breakdown for 8 – 4 oz. glass jars worth:

  • 1/2 bag freeze dried strawberries – $1.50
  • 2 cups gluten-free rolled oats – $1.50
  • 1 cup coconut water – $.75
  • 1 cup apple juice – $.50

**ingredient prices based on costs at local grocery store in San Antonio, May 2024.

Total Cost to Make Your Own: $4.25

Total Cost for 8 cups from the store: $15.92

That’s almost 1/4 of the cost. WHOA.

Given how easy these are to prep, they are absolutely worth making your own to get the savings!

This is also a great gluten-free, dairy-free breakfast option if you use certified gluten-free oats.

AND…

You can mix different flavors and freeze dried fruits to bring your favorite flavors to oats.

Think:

  • Mango Overnight Oats
  • Apple juice + coconut water + freeze dried berries.
  • Pineapple juice + coconut water + freeze dried pineapple.

FINALLY…

If you want a protein boost, you could use this Protein Oats mix with the liquid proportions mentioned above.

Or you could add in about 1/2 a scoop of this protein powder to each jar, using the recipe below.

All that to say, these are easy to “make your own” and are the perfect “cool summer breakfast.”

Berry Overnight Oats

Refresh your morning routine with these scrumptious overnight oats!
Prep Time10 minutes minutes
Cook Time0 minutes minutes
Total Time2 hours hours
Servings - 8 servings

Equipment

  • 8 4 oz. glass jelly jars or similar containers

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 bag freeze dried strawberry or berry mix crushed
  • 1/2 cup protein powder optional, evenly divided
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup apple juice

Instructions

  • To each of the 4 oz. glass jars, add 1/4 cup rolled oats.
  • Crush the freeze dried strawberries and add a few pinchfuls onto the oats.
  • If adding protein powder, add about 1 Tbsp worth to each jar with the oats and freeze dried berries.
  • In a liquid measuring cup, combine the coconut water and apple juice, stir gently.
  • Pour the liquid into each of the jars, covering the oats and stawberries/berries. Leave a little space on the top for the oats to expand. If needed, make another 1/2 to 1 cup of the same even amounts of coconut water and apple juice to fill all of the jars.
  • Give each jar a slight stir with a spoon or knife to make sure all of the oats and berries are "underwater."
  • Put the lids on the jars and place in the refrigerator overnight, or for at least 2 hours before eating. Refrigerate up to 5 days.
  • Served chilled for breakfast or snack.
