Chili with Caramelized Onion Cornbread

Chili with Caramelized Onion Cornbread

I heart caramelized onions.

I adore the flavor and I especially love the way they make the house smell when they are caramelizing. Its a tossup between caramelizing onions and roasting garlic. Jury is still out on that one.

So I’m teaming up with Formula 409 and their ‘America’s Love Affair with Grease’ campaign…helping home chefs see that a messy meal isn’t worth skipping just to avoid the mess. Splatters from the chili pot, and the skillet that caramelizes the onions…totally worth the mess. Especially when you have a quick way to clean up the splotches left behind on and around the stove.

To kick things off, we’re having a “virtual chili cook-off,” we’ll need you to check out the recipes and decide which one you think sounds best.

My Dutch Oven Chili with Caramelized Onion Cornbread, or another chef’s Texas Style Chili with Corn Fritters.

The prizes for voting…

We’re giving away 5 gift baskets of goodies, including my $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook, as well as other product and kitchen goodies that make for a successful chili cook-off!

It’s simple…

Head on over and check out the recipes and tips in the Battle of the Beans Chili Cook-Off. The come back and vote, details below!

I want Texas Chili and your Caramelized Onion Cornbread

Stefanie October 28, 2013 at 9:05 pm

My favorite messy meal is pan-fried sausage, potatoes and onions. No recipe-just saute the onions while browning the sausage – then add diced potatoes and cook until tender. Season with kosher salt & black pepper-yum!

Steva Spottswood October 28, 2013 at 9:07 pm

Chicken fried pork chops smothered in sausage bacon gravy with caramelized onions on top and don’t forget the mushrooms.

Christina October 28, 2013 at 9:21 pm

Christina October 28, 2013 at 9:22 pm

My favorite messy meal is fried chicken livers with mashed potatoes and gravy. So good, but those little livers sure do splatter when you fry them.

My favorite messy meal is home made spaghetti and meatballs. You have the grease action from frying the meatballs and the tomato sauce splatters from the simmering sauce!!!

Jay@MoneyBulldog October 29, 2013 at 4:19 am

Okay….. Definitely hungry now… :)

Tammy Dougherty October 29, 2013 at 7:53 am

i vote for your dutch oven chili. it has fewer ingredients and looks delicioius!

Cindy October 29, 2013 at 11:27 am

I would make the Dutch over-less labor intensive and more items my boys won’t question in their food…..

Cindy October 29, 2013 at 11:28 am

Anything I cook is messy-it just doesn’t matter. The dog learned early to keep a close watch when I am in the kitchen-things fall randomly. Try as I might, I am just a messy cook and I will have to learn to accept that because I like to cook and I love to eat!

Lori G October 29, 2013 at 11:33 am

Yours sounds delish! In fact chili is on the menu this week, going to try yours but we like to eat with tortilla chips or scoops (my kiddos won’t touch onions:)

Lori G October 29, 2013 at 11:36 am

Our messiest meal is definitely tacos, especially when serving rice as a side…usually more on the floor than on the plates!
