Store-Bought vs. Homemade LAUNDRY SOAP: Is It Really Worth It to Make Your Own Homemade Powder Laundry Soap?!

Is it worth it to make your own homemade laundry powder soap, or should you just buy it pre-made at the store?

In this video and series, we will analyze the cost, convenience and ingredient comparisons between homemade and store-bought powder laundry soap.

I will also teach you an easy formula to use to make the homemade version, and at the end of the episode, I will share my opinion on whether or not it’s worth it to make your own or buy the store-bought version.

Homemade Powder Laundry Soap

An easy "ratio" formula that you can use to make whatever size batch of homemade laundry soap as you like!
Prep Time10 minutes minutes
Cook Time0 minutes minutes
Servings - 100 loads

Equipment

  • 1 large glass or acrylic storage container with air tight lid

Ingredients 

  • 3 cups baking soda
  • 3 cups washing soda
  • 3 cups borax
  • 3 cups epsom salt
  • 1 bar castile soap, scented or unscented grated

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, stir together the baking soda, washing soda, borax, and epsom salt.
  • Make a small well in the powder mix and grate the castile bar soap into the mixture. Gently fold to evenly distribute the little curls of castile soap.
  • Transfer the homemade powder laundry soap mix to a storage container with an air-tight lid.
  • Use 1/4 cup of powder mixture for a regular load, or 1/3 cup of powder mixture for extra soiled items.
