So I’m not a believer in resolutions in the new year. I am however a believer in goals. SMART goals, that is.
I write them for myself weekly in a number of categories to help me stay focused and moving forward. The categories are personal, parenting, fitness, home & kitchen, business, & ministry goals. On the same page, I also include the anticipated weekly expenses & errands that I need to run.
Here’s what it might look like on any given week:
Personal – shave legs, no sugar week, green smoothie every morning (don’t judge on the shaving thing, it’s winter!!!)
Fitness – run total of 14 miles over the week; long run – 6 miles; 2 days cross training
Parenting & Family – Ryan, earlier bedtime; Charlie, read chapter book; Tyler – name writing; Austin – speech practice (he’s delayed, just like all the older brothers!)
Home & Kitchen – triple batch of muffins for school lunches, clean out garage
Business – shoot 3 cooking videos, website content, publicist comms
Ministry & Social – serve at the preschool; lunch with friend; new chapter in Bible study book
{FREE PRINTABLE: This is what I use to stay on track each week!}
When you have a dream or a goal, you’ve got to write it down and share it with a friend or spouse. I talk with Steve about these things on a weekly basis and it makes a HUGE difference when you say it all OUT LOUD!
(Try it and see if it helps! My guess is that it will!)
Word of the Year
{Written in the sand at White Sands National Monument during our family Christmas trip this past week!}
As I eluded in my 2014 Year in Review, I’d like to make some changes to the way that we present content here on $5 Dinners…including more video and more meal plans for you. But in general, I’d like to FOCUS more. As an entreprenuer, it’s easy to get ‘ADD’ with all the crazy ideas and needs that get thrown my way on a daily and weekly basis. These items often get in the way or larger projects and products that I’d like to develop. While I have a great team that I work with and delegate to, there’s always room for improvement. With more focus and stronger goal writing, I can provide more quality content for you guys! Better recipes, better photos, more videos, etc.
I’ll also be applying this ‘focus’ word/phrase over all areas of my life in an effort to be more present in the moment, focus on my guys during family time, focus on work during work time, not get distracted by the dishes during homework time, etc.
Perhaps your year will be one of more focus and seeing more fruit in your life?!
I did a quiz and received the mantra “I am here”. I thought it was appropriate for me, so I am focusing on living in the moment.
