so glad I happened upon this tonight because as we are becoming better at cooking at home I am trying to buy produce according to the season just because I've learned that is the easiest way to save on produce.... it seems easy to know what the spring/summer fruits are because all of a sudden they are bountiful at the market... but with winter I had no idea that's when avocados were in season!

My research says that if you use a fruit or vegetable in its specific season; it would save you from many diseases that can arise in that particular season. Where ever unseasonal fruits or vegetables produced in green houses or frozen can't protect you a lot. Nice list to remind me which stuff is seasonal and which is not.

I love Summer fruits and veggies... I really, really do. But, I think that the Fall and Winter ones are my favorite. Maybe because I love comfort foods :)

I love finding great deals! I especially look forward to the boxes of clementines!

-Andrea

If you have a basement or cellar you can store a lot of these all winter long - we've successfully stored winter squash (spaghetti, hubbard, pumpkins), potatoes, onions, apples, pears in our basement (just keep the room cool - 60 degrees or less).

So when we find a good deal, we stock up and store!

Thanks for a great site.
