What’s Growing in the Garden – SFG Update

Quick growth update from the $5 Dinners Garden!

We have a number of yellow summer squash growing in.

And some hot chili peppers…these are growing like weeds!

The cucumber plants have sprung out of the garden and I’m trying to train them to grow up that wire fence you can see.

It’s been a battle. To say the least.

If I’m not careful, they’ll be all over my neighbor’s backyard!

The lone wild green bean plant has outgrown this wire fence, and I need to get a stick frame up for it. (I should go do that right now!)

And there are a number of these mini tomatoes growing in the tomato garden!

Now I’m outside all weekend…basking in the sun, watering the garden, resting in the hammock! Hope y’all have a lovely and relaxing July 4th weekend!

    Hi There!

I am new to your blog and wanted to tell you how much I love the recipes so far! My bf and I just started a garden this past weekend, and your photos have us very hopeful for our own tomato plants!
    Have a great weekend~

Love your site! Thought I’d link up to share my garden update too. I have gardened for years the typical row style, this is our first year of SFG and I love it! Fewer weeds, bigger plants, less maintenance overall. Yours looks great too! Thanks for sharing, it’s always fun to see other people’s gardens.

I stated SFG after I read about it on your site and now two of my friends are doing it too! I feel like I am a SFG pimp! 😉 I was a little late getting mine in this year, but I am still calling it a success. I have a runaway pumpkin plant, corn, some cukes trying to escape the pumpkins, mint, basil and a few carrots. I had a lot more, but marauding rabbits and ground squirrels are decimating my crops!

My little garden is planted. 5 tomato plants and 3 bell pepper plants. Bell peppers are coming on, tomatoes aren’t yet. 3 of the tomato plants are ok, better once I put food out for all the plants. We have had some sun and warmer days so am hoping they do well. Will see. I planted the day prior to summer, late like last year. Oh well, can’t say I didn’t try. May put some stuff in pots as well, like lettuce. Take care!

Your comment about the cucumbers growing all over and soon spreading to your neighbors made our family laugh a lot because that does happen when a garden does well. Quite sure your neighbors will like a taste of your great veggies. Nice photos. Happy 4th of July!

Bunnies are eating whatever I have planted that isn’t behind a fence. Behind a fence I do have tomatoes, potatoes, radish, lettuce, peas, yellow beans, peppers, onions, cuccumbers & sweet corn planted. I also have sunflowers of different kinds planted ( bunnies just hide behind them) & they are getting taller each day. My garden growing is behind with most I planted probably due to wet spring, but I’ll be harvesting til September if the weather stays warm/hot! I enjoy your website!!!!!
