This Week’s Shopping Trip

by Erin, The $5 Dinner Mom on January 21, 2009

Oh dear. I’ve gone way over budget. For good reason. I hope!

I had my list all planned out with my coupon matches for this week’s Mix and Match Sale at Kroger! As I was browsing through the organic/gluten free section of the store, I noticed a few items on closeout. Said items were GFCFSF. Since there were only a few left, I knew that I had to snag them at their closeout prices! So I did. And ended up going over budget. It happens!

Just the other day Hubs mentioned that he was all out of “snacks”. Translation: There were no more granola bars. He takes 1 granola bar for lunch every day. It was moments later that’s Kroger deals post popped up on my Google Reader. “Honey, you’re in luck this week! Big sale on granola bars and I’ve got lots of coupons!”

And stockpile I did!

Hubs also likes to eat oatmeal for breakfast. I think I got enough to last until spring arrives!

Free: Cottonelle TP
Nearly Free: Rotel tomatoes ($.27 after coupon)
Good deals: $1.67 canteloupe, 5 boxes Kashi cereal bars $1 each, 8 oatmeals for $1 each, and $1.50 blueberries

Total before sales and coupons $176.53
Total after sales and coupons $81.42
Percent Savings 54%

You went over budget – I lost all my money at the grocery store. Hubby and I are in a cash only stage to try and keep to our budget. I had the money in my back pocket when I got to the grocery store ($65) and when I went to pay it was gone. Worst part – I had no cc on me and had to leave and come back

I wish I still lived near a Kroger!

You guys always make me wish we had a Kroeger. We have a Winco, which is great, but noone ever posts about the great deals they’re getting there, so I always have to drive myself, lol!

I can’t believe that!! That’s wonderful! We don’t have a Kroger or a CVS. We do have a Walgreen’s but it’s old and small. I should still check some things out. Wow!! I still can’t believe your savings!!

I did the same thing last week…but it was at Meijer and they had great sales on the GF foods! You have to get those when they do go on sale!

I went last night and our Kroger was out of a lot of the stuff that was in the buy 10 get $5 off sale. I did manage to get 10 items, barely. And the TP, was totally gone.

I didn’t stumble onto the Kashi stuff, and they were out of the Steamers vegetables that were on sale at my store (raincheck!), but I did get rotel tomatoes for .33/can, which is awesome, and we love the coffeemate vanilla coffee creamer—got it cheaper than generic-3 for $5- under 2 bucks a bottle is awesome!
