I love to serve a salad bar for summer entertaining. I ask all that are attending to bring their favorite salad topping and a bottle of salad dressing. There always ends up being so much variety and its delicious,

I like to do potlucks and one of the most inexpensive dishes I make to bring to a potluck is Cowboy Beans in the crockpot. Everybody loves them and all of the ingredients are so cheap to buy.

My favorite thing to do for summer entertaining is fruit salad! I hit up my friends with gardens, and my local produce stand for inexpensive ingredients. Colorful and something EVERYONE will eat!

I save on summer entertaining by providing “water coolers” of water and ice tea instead of pre-packaged drinks!

I save money by following whats on sale at the store, and have a planned list of things people could bring ready for when people ask if they can bring something.

Have a BBQ/potluck. We provide hot dogs and hamburgers and if they want anything different, they bring their own meat to grill.

My husband’s family often has “Bring Your Own Meat” style cookouts. The host provides most of the sides, and you bring something you like to grill. Sides are often the cheaper part of the meal, so this works great for everybody!

One of my favorite ways to save on summer gatherings is to have everyone bring something to the meal – it adds a nice variety and no one holds an extra burden.

Kathryn May 19, 2012 at 9:10 am

Usually when family or friends get together we have a “potluck” where everyone brings something to share.

I save on summer entertainment by buying things at the end of last summer season. For food I watch the sales and coordinate my menu accordingly.
