Favorite Summer Meal Savings: Fire up the grill, then get creative with whatever meat I’ve picked up on sale, along with grilled veggies and herbs from the garden. When the neigbors smell dinner, it sometimes turns into an impromptu potluck dinner out on the deck!

Instead of buying pizza, make it on the grill with fresh veggies. Make as many meals in my Deep Covered Baker as possible, it goes in the oven and microwave. I love getting my recipes out that are around $2/serving. They all vary in ingredients, but are soooo yummy.

Our favorite way to entertain is to have everyone over to the lake for a swim and BBQ.

My favorite ways to save on summer entertaining are to patronize local veggie stands. You get produce that tastes better and it’s way cheaper. I also do a potluck so you make the main dish but everyone brings their specialty! Using cloth napkins and a tablecloth is cheaper so you won’t be wasting money on paper goods.

I save money by using my slow cooker. I buy ingredients in bulk to save time and shopping trips, do all my prep work and bag up meals to freeze. All week I can thaw a meal out in my fridge the night before and know we’ll have food the next day after a long day at work. It keeps us from making easy impulse buys are the corner grocery or ordering in expensive takeout.

I love going to the local farmers market. I get delicious local produce and grill it with olive oil or make super salads. Kabobs and salads with lots of veggies can make a small amount of meat stretch and lower the cost of a meal!

You grow a wonderful garden, too!

Diane May 21, 2012 at 1:38 pm

My best tip: keep it simple and use in-season foods!

My favorite way to save money on entertaining in the summer is to base my menus around what is the cheapest produce at our local farmer’s market and grocery stores. A local discount store near me has marked down produce all the time, that needs to be used up quickly. I try to be super flexible with meal planning in the summer and eat whatever veggies are on sale. I think I’ve found a way for my children to eat just about every vegetable imaginable. Also, having my husband grill as much as possible helps with clean up and cooking expenses from running the stove and oven and dishwasher as much.

A good way to entertain and save at the same time is to have every family bring a dish. We did this last night with 3 families. When you each contribute, it’s fun and frugal!

We love grilling with friends. Everyone brings something, so you have great variety for a small price. Add yard games and swimming, and it’s a great day!

My favorite way to save on summer entertaining is to grow my own veggies and herbs, grab coupons for food, personal items or entertainment, and enjoy the outdoors!!!
