Monthly Meal Plan – February 2011

It’s so lovely having a plan. Even if it doesn’t get executed as you’d hoped, it’s still lovely to have a plan! Especially a meal plan!

There is nothing worse than walking up to the refrigerator at 5 pm wondering what in the world you’ll be having for dinner.

Nothing worse.

It’s such a terrible feeling.

(OK, so there may be some worse things in life.)

But back to the plan.  A meal plan can eradicate the feeling for good.  Mama’s happier. Daddy’s happier. Kids are happier.

If you’re not meal planning, I highly encourage you to start. And get rid of that awful what’s for dinner feeling!

It’s February.  A short month.


I’ll be out of town for a few days later in the month.  Nana is coming to the boys’ rescue!

And I’m planning on doing another Vintage Recipe Week!  I’ll be whipping up a few meals from my grandmother’s cookbook from 1942, and wishing I was in her vintage kitchen cooking along side her.

1- Slow Cooker Creole Chicken with Veggies
2- Burger Goulash on Mashed Potatoes
3- Pork Roast
4- Breakfast for Dinner…probably Spiced Pumpkin Waffles
5- Pork Chops
6- Leftovers or Sandwiches

8-  Spanish Rice
9-  “Baked Beans That Are Different”
10-  Spaghetti Souffle
11-  Spanish Stew
12-  Out for Dinner – Celebrating V-Day early!
13-  Leftovers or Sandwiches

14- Skillet Lasagna
15- Pork Chops
16- Mexican Pizza
17- Chicken and Smothered Okra
18- Italian Wedding Soup
19- Leftovers or Sandwiches
20- Mama’s out of town – Nana’s in charge!

21- Mama’s out of town – Nana’s in charge!
22- Mama’s out of town – Nana’s in charge!
23- Mama’s out of town – Nana’s in charge!
24- Chili in Homemade Bread Bowls
25- Pan Fried Tilapia
26- Rolled Pizza Bread

please tell me you are going to share chicken and smothered okra recipe?!?!?!?! I do my menu planning a little different just like I do my grocery shopping a bit different. I go from 15th to 15th and also shop of off weeks so that I miss the pay day rush and prices always seem to be cheaper the week after the 1st and 15th?!?! But back to that recipe, are ya going to share it later this month?!?!

Oh my, I see lots of recipes I’m hoping you post! (burger goulash, spanish stew, etc!) I do a weekly meal plan, but can never seem to stick to a monthly one. I see things on websites I want to try, or my mom will call me with something I end up with a craving for. Waiting a month to make these always seems to take too long.

LOL! Yes Jaime! The monthly meal plan often gets switched around depending on cravings and sales! But it helps me keep track of what’s in the pantry and freezer…so that nothing stays in there too long!

And I will be posting these recipes!

Do you find that it helps you keep track better than a master list? I’ve recently started using one of those for freezer items. I find it helpful, but I’m still taking an hour to figure out a shopping list and meal plan. Maybe I should try a basic monthly one again?

Oooh I do hope you post the recipes soon! These sound so good! I just started up menu planning, and even with some switches in days, it’s been a lifesaver! My shopping was more focused, and everyone has been checking the “menu” to see what’s for dinner. We’ve also got a list of the major items in the freezer so we can cross them off as we use them. This has been the least stressful meal prep week we’ve had in a long time. Thanks for the inspiration!
