Do you have any “weekly meal traditions” or meals that you have the same time every week?
For instance, for as long as Steve and I have been married, we have had pancakes for Sunday morning breakfast before church. We rarely deviate from this plan. I have even started making up the dry part of the pancake mix, placing it into a large plastic ziploc and writing the wet ingredients on the bag (more details on that concept here)…so that Steve can make up the batter while I catch a few more ZZZs on Sunday mornings! I should mention he is an excellent pancake flipper. And a morning person.
(I am so NOT a morning person. Ever since becoming a mother. I used to be a morning person. I used to work 1st shift in the hospital and I loved the drive in, as the roads were calm and quiet. But now. I chase after ever possible minute in the morning, hoping to get back to sleep! No. Longer. A. Morning. Person. ZZZzzzzzz.)
While the Sunday morning breakfast tradition will continue as usual, our Sunday lunch and dinner traditions will be changing. During the winter months, we eat tuna sandwiches for a quick lunch after church, followed by leftovers for Sunday evening dinner.
But…it’s grilling time now!
So our Sunday weekly meal traditions, from now until November, will be leftovers for lunch and grilling burgers for dinner!
I love having “weekly meal traditions” on the weekends, giving me time to “rest” from the week’s kitchen activity.
Monday - Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken
Tuesday – Lettuce Burger Wraps
Wednesday – Grilled Chicken (Split breasts on sale for $.99/lb…a GREAT price!)
Thursday - Shepherd’s Pie with Chicken
Friday – Breakfast for Dinner
Saturday – Tacos, Chips and Salsa
Sunday - Grill Burgers
I will post the recipes each night after I make the meal. If you see a meal you are interested in, please check back for the recipe later in the week!

I just have to tell you that I recently tried your balsamic roast recipe and had to make it again today! It’s YUMMY!
I find that the leftovers are even better though… *grin* DH liked it on a sub roll w/ a little cheese melted over the top.
@familyofthree,
Oh…I love that leftovers idea! And so glad you enjoyed it…it’s one of our faves too!
I do have a weekly meal plan that is a tradition for our family and they can usually always count on it.
Monday is Pasta of some kind, spagetti, ravioli, etc…
Tuesday is usually Taco Tuesday but sometimes changes up by enchiladas or burritos.
Wednesday is Whatever Wednesday. If you can find it you can eat it!
Thursdy I always cook some type of chicken
Friday is something fun! Homemade pizza, chili dogs you get the idea.
Saturday and Sundays we also BBQ pretty much year round ( live in California) Sunday is always a big dinner!
This just helps me plan meals and grocery shop within a budget.
We have a family of 7 of all ages, 16,14,13,8 and 2 my and Dad’s age is a secret!!!
I realy enjoy looking at all your recipes and great ideas. Thanks for all the inspiration!

@kim,
Kim, I like your ideas! The hardest part of meal planning for me is deciding what to make. I keep trying new things, my husband says I never make the same thing twice. Once I started doing Taco Tuesdays (which also for us includes burritos, fajitas, and enchiladas), I have had a load off my mind. I have been trying to wrack my brain for other easy to remember dinners, so I will start whatever Wednesdays and Fun Fridays as well.
periodic meal traditions are great
I make raviolis once a month (it’d be more if I had a pasta machine!), and it’s great because I can use whatever is in season to fill them!
Sleeping on the weekends and cleaning day on Mondays is our family traditions:-)
We have a set breakfast menu when school is in session: Muffins on Monday (mix dry and wet the night before – makes for fast and easy finishing the next morning!), Toast, Bacon and Eggs on Tues/Thurs (bacon cooked on Sunday morning, again to make things go faster), Waffles on Wednesday (the most popular day of the week), and cereal on Friday.
Nobody whines about wanting something else, I’m not standing in the kitchen going, “Ummmmmmmmm…” when we’re cramped for time, and they get a good hot breakfast most days. I can even sneak some wheat germ into their waffles when they aren’t looking.
@Mother Chaos,
I’m loving the alliteration of Muffins on Monday and Waffles on Wednesday! Hmmm….
Funny! Being a mom has actually made me more of a morning person than I used to be, although I’m still working on it. It’s certainly made me a lighter sleeper. No alarm clock can compare with the sound of kids in the morning (or the middle of the night, as the case may be).
Our weekly tradition on Sunday is spaghetti after church. It’s a quick meal to make. It started when I had to work Sunday afternoons. My hubby started making it cuz I didn’t like cooking then cleaning up and going to work. I’ve not been working on Sunday for years but we still have spaghetti, and even serve it to friends who we invite over. Sometimes if it’s a big group, like this Sunday, I cooked up the ground beef the night before and spaghetti sauce, added some spices…..put in fridge and was so yummy the next day!
We’re going to try more grilling this summer. I mean the “I” part of “we”, not the hubby part of “we”. I’m going to try your Stuffed Burger recipe you posted last week. It sounds delicious! I can’t wait. And we currently have tuna fish salad sandwiches every Sunday too…my husband’s family tradition, something I carried on from his momma. It works good, been almost 12 years of Tuna on Sunday, almost every Sunday.
We started doing this to streamline menu planning for me.
It does sometimes need tweaking. For example, my son has a 4-H Dog Club meeting every Tuesday that requires easy prep and cleanup – so it’s now crockpot Tuesday, instead of what it was before.
Mexican Monday
Crockpot Tuesday
Mediterranean Wednesday (Greek, Lebanese, anything Middle Eastern)
Asian Thursday (Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc.)
Italian Friday
The weekends are somewhat loosey goosey. We do a lot of breakfast for supper, leftovers, pizza, etc.
