Kroger Shopping Trip (and another shopping trip to Jungle Jim’s!)

Shopping with the $5 Dinner Mom

I think I may have a new little problem.

I’ve now been to Jungle Jim’s 2 weeks in a row.  The first time with Tyler and Charlie while Ryan was at an OT appointment the other week.  And this time with the entire family, as we had our annual meeting with our accountant…whose office just so happens to be…right nearby!

My little problem.  I wish I lived closer to Jungle Jim’s and that I could shop there on a regular basis.  They have fabulous produce there, and I can’t keep myself from buying the super ripe and delicious mangoes that they sell.

(I’m sorry I didn’t snap a photo of the trip.  All 3 kids fell asleep in the car on the way home, and needless to say, were all a bit cranky when we got home and they had to wake up!)

I bought a case of mangoes this time, as well as more of the $.60/bunch cilantro, kiwis, peppers and more produce that was marked down for quick sale. In all, we spent around $35 at Jungle Jim’s.  Mostly on produce, plus I splurged for some raw shrimp to make a Shrimp Mango Curry (which did NOT cost $5!), and some more Malta Goya for my man!

  • $.99 each Coconut Milk – on sale for $1.99, used 2 $1 off coupons from a store mailer
  • 2 $1.50 Rice Milk – used $1/2 peelie coupon (We are starting to switch Tyler over to rice milk now from his high cal formula.)
  • $1.99 pineapples

  • $2.50 Ground Turkey
  • $3.12 Ground Chuck

Total spent at Kroger: $39.38

Total for the week: Just under $75!  Perfect…hit our weekly goal right on the head!

I was wondering if you have noticed the new Ecoupon policy and it has effected you? People are raving over it because it went on for so long and corporate just recently changed it. They no longer accept the Ecoupons combined with paper coupons. So, everyone, including myself has deleted their accounts with cellfire, shortcuts, and some off of the Kroger website. Now I have to double check to see if there might be any Ecoupons on the website before I go to the store because I would much rather take a .50 cent paper coupon that doubles to $1 than a .55 Ecoupon. It looks like you have been buying more and more Kroger brand items (yogurt, frozen items, veggies, and something else in the back) instead of stacking up on manu. coupons.

Erin I wish I didn’t live so close to Jungle Jim’s…lol. It’s only a 20 or so minute drive for me and hubs office is near there as well. My kids LOVE it there! I personally love their bulk rick bins. I hit them up for smaller quantities of rice for special meals. The produce there is so great! It’s very easy to get the kids to pick something new to try because they have so. much. stuff. that you can’t get in the regular supermarket. love that store!

You can buy coconut milk? Wow, that’s awesome.

I know we don’t have a Jungle Jims where I live, but I’ll have to look for it at Trader Joes or our local health food store.

That’s a great deal on the ground turkey too! Good job this trip.
