Kroger Shopping Trip

I took a few minutes before the BlogHer conference last week to bop into Kroger for my last shopping trip of this month! The ground beef was $1.28/lb. and fresh wild caught salmon was $2.99/lb AGAIN!!!! I didn’t catch this AMAZING fresh salmon price the first time I looked through the circular. I couldn’t believe it! Again!. I made the Firecracker Salmon from the “Stock the Freezer” list.

Other great highlights: $.50 for green peppers, $.25 each (after sale and coupon) for the organic Strawberry Lemonade, and $1.29 each of Smart Balance butter (the dairy free butter alternative I’ve been using for the boys!), plus hoagie sandwich buns that were marked down for quick sale for the Hubs’ lunches!

Because we were out of town over the weekend, I knew we wouldn’t need a lot…just enough to get us through this week and into August!

Is it really August already? Anyone else feel like you blinked and the summer is almost over?

Total spent this week: $59.19

Total on groceries for the month of July: $282.28

You did a great job! I spent right about the same that you did, so I’m feeling pretty good, especially since you have a special dairy-free diet for your kids. I’m working permanently keeping my monthly budget down to $300 or less for the 5 of us, and your blog really helps me do that. Thanks for all you do!

Yes! We have a running “joke” (it’s not really very funny) that it’s going to snow any day now. *sigh* Hopefully that won’t really happen for a long time yet :)

$282 for a family of 4 for a month? Good for you! I usually go for 3 of us (plus 1 on formula) for $360-380/mo. I’m impressed!

I’ve been challenging myself to spend less and less on groceries, and this month I did pretty well (about $200 for myself and husband for the month). I’m curious, though. When totalling up, is this a total for food, household items, toiletries and medicines or just food? I always add all the categories up and end up about the same as you for just 2 adults and I’m trying to figure out why.

It absolutely amazes me that you spent $282 to feed your family for a month. That is usually what I spend in a week and a half to 2 weeks. You are truly motivating.

Hi Erin, I came across your site and love it so far. I was wondering is there anyway that maybe you could help me. I spend at least $500 a month for 4 to eat that is my husband and I and a 10 year old boy and a 7 year old boy. My only problem is we live on ground beef hamburger helper and chicken, and fried pork chops. My oldest doesnt like red sauce and the youngest dont like cheese sauces, I cant eat pasta or rice, & the hubby just tired of the same ol thing. lol. Im trying to save some money and make things that taste great. We love meat and potatoes and corn. I saw the Meat and Potato Lasagna I am going to try it. maybe the oldest will eat it. Please help if you can thanks again.
