CLOSED! Commit to Fit Friday – Make the Commitment & $100 Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed…and here is the winner:

Linda says, “I follow you on FB and if I were to win the $100 my goal would be to start a membership to our local gym.”

Congratulations Linda and to all of you who are committing to fitness!  Way to go!

**Our winner has been notified via email with further instructions.  Stay tuned to $5 Dinners for our next exciting giveaway!**

Above is what hangs on the wall in our office. A constant reminder of our family’s commitment to fitness.

What you see is a framed *** that my mom had made for me after I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2000.  Ten years ago, last weekend, I ran my first (and probably only) marathon.  It was an amazing experience…complete with sassiness, sore legs, Tootsie rolls at mile 22, a nice view of Watergate where I stopped to say Hi to my dad and stretch my legs, a running finish, and a race for a cure.  Oh, and there was a space blanket, purple Team in Training comradery for all of us where purple tanktops, and a dad who stalked me rode the metro around DC to different stops along the course to cheer me on!

It was an amazing experience.  And one I’d like to repeat…but the chances of that happening with little people around is slim. Really, none. (Perhaps when they are older…training for a marathon with little people around takes more time and commitment than I have to offer right now.)

Half marathons will do. They are my thing.

I’m back to hitting the pavement and have run several miles this week.  Tomorrow I’ve got my final long run before the half marathon in a few weeks. This is what my Saturday will look like.

Bible Study. 10 mile run. Drink water. Eat. Stretch. Eat. Epsom salts bath. Drink water. Stretch. Sink into the couch. Eat. Drink water. Stretch. Another Epsom salts bath. Eat. Drink water…

(You get the idea. Most of the day will be centered around this long run…and now you see why training for longer than a half marathon would prove difficult!)

I have made the Commit to Fit Pledge. Have you?!?

If so, then this giveaway is for you. It’s for $100. 100 bucks. 100 smackers.  For you to invest in your fitness goals.

For me, it was the half marathon entry fee.

For you, it could be a series of 5K entry fees. Or a gym membership. Or Zumba classes.

This money is to help you reach your personal fitness goals.  (Please note, proof of purchase will be required before your reimbursement can be sent. Winner and I will work out all those details. Failure to show proof of purchase in a timely manner will result in a new winner being chosen.)

My personal fitness goal is two-fold: to continue losing weight (20 pounds since 8/22–only a bunch more to go!) and to continue doing 2 miles a day on my gazelle! I Commit to Fit! I would use the $100 to invest in new (good) walking shoes!

  2. Maren Lee says

My fitness goal is to join a gym and work out at least 4 time a week for an hour. I commit to fit. I would use the $100 to get the gym membership. Thank you!

  3. Vitamin M says

A friend and I have been training to run a 5k. The money would allow us to enter into a race where all the money goes to help the families of kids who are battling cancer.

  4. katherine says

I’d like to run another half marathon next year. There’s one in April. I also think I’ll need to get a gym membership this winter to stay fit.

I am in the last week of Couch to 5K and I loved it! My first 5K is on Nov. 7. I’m nervous and excited. I know it’s only 3.1 miles, but to me, it feels like a lot more! I have 4 kids, last one born in June, so this has been my “me” time.

  6. Sarah Partain says

my husband and I are starting P90x next week and I would totally put the money toward that endeavor!

My fitness goal is to break 3:30 in my 6th marathon in the spring. Right now, I’ve been taking an awesome TRX suspension training class at a local fitness studio and my current pass is amount to run out so I’d use the $100 to buy another pass.

  8. Kristen says

I just finished my 5th Marathon, and am looking toward my next challenge to commit me to fitness! I would love to pre-register for an early 2011 marathon so it goes on my calendar and I will have something to start to work towards again.

  9. Kristy G. says

I am a stay-at-home mother of two young children. I love to work out using exercise DVD’s. I would use the $100 to buy new DVDs. I add new exercise routines to my collection to keep things fun and fresh!

  10. Dawn J says

My personal fitness goal is to run a half marathon in October, 2011. I have never done anything bigger than a 5k (and I walked a good chunk of that). I pledge to Commit to Fit! I would use the $100 toward the entry fee and the remainder toward some cold weather running gear or a new running bra [I need a better cage for the girls :) ]. Thanks for offering!

  11. Rachel says

I’ve just started running recently to loose the rest of my baby weight and my goal is to run a couple 5K’s in the next year.

  12. Miranda Cox says

I am still working on loosing the baby weight I gained w/ my daughter, I ran the 1/2 marathon last December but cannot afford the entry fee this year, I would use the $100 towards that and my goal would be to beat my 2hours and 45 min time!!!

  13. Elisa Singleton says

My personal fitness goal is to complete my first triathlon in May. I’d spend the $100 on multisport training classes in cycling and biking.

  14. Donna B. says

I’m committed to losing my excess weight, so just this week I’ve started working with a nutritionist to work on balanced nutrition, portion sizes, exercise goals, etc.

  15. Donna B. says

I’ve been entering Subway’s Commit to Fit program on Facebook every day since it started :)

  16. stephanie says

I’m working on losing weight and increasing flexibility. Years of sitting behind desks and nursing babies has made me feel old and stiff. I’ve started doing yoga in addition to the walking I do and it’s helping tremendously. This winter I’d love to join a gym so I can go swim on a regular basis.

  17. says

I would love to be able to run a marathon, it’s always been a goal of mine, but I agree…I think training for it with little ones would be nearly impossible, at least for me. Right now, my main goal is just to lose 15-30 lbs, get back in my old clothes, and lose the pooch I’ve gotten in my stomach. I have a gym membership, but because it’s 30 minutes away and I don’t go to town everyday for work being a stay at home mom, I’m doing good if I make it there 2 times a week. I think I would use the $100 towards the P90X Program. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it!

  18. Katy P says

My goal is to lose my remaining baby weight. I would use the money to buy a treadmill. I don’t have a great place to go walking and find it hard to do with a baby. I’d love to have a treadmill.

  19. says

like others, my husband and I are purchasing P90X! our fitness goal is to live long and healthy lives for ourselves and our children to the best of our abilities. (I’m also looking forward to joing some local zumba classes woohoo!)

  20. Carey says

I’d use the $100 to join a fitness class at my church. I’d also like to commit to fit by starting to walk at least 30-40 minutes every day and do yoga on my Wii Fit.

  21. Connie says

I commit to Fit. I’ve lost 49 lbs ( 20 more to go) since January and would put the money towards new walking shoes or an mp3 player (I get bored walking) thanks!!

  22. Jen W says

My goal is to exercised 5 days a week. I am commited to be fit. I would use the $100 to purchase P90X, which would be an awesome help in the colder months.

  23. Jennifer Mackey says

My “Commit to Fit” is already in progress: I just completed week 2 of Couch to 5K. I’ve never been a runner before, but I’m loving it right now!

I would use the $100 prize to buy new running clothes.
