CLOSED! Commit to Fit Friday – Make the Commitment & $100 Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed…and here is the winner:

Linda says, “I follow you on FB and if I were to win the $100 my goal would be to start a membership to our local gym.”

Congratulations Linda and to all of you who are committing to fitness!  Way to go!

**Our winner has been notified via email with further instructions.  Stay tuned to $5 Dinners for our next exciting giveaway!**

Above is what hangs on the wall in our office. A constant reminder of our family’s commitment to fitness.

What you see is a framed *** that my mom had made for me after I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2000.  Ten years ago, last weekend, I ran my first (and probably only) marathon.  It was an amazing experience…complete with sassiness, sore legs, Tootsie rolls at mile 22, a nice view of Watergate where I stopped to say Hi to my dad and stretch my legs, a running finish, and a race for a cure.  Oh, and there was a space blanket, purple Team in Training comradery for all of us where purple tanktops, and a dad who stalked me rode the metro around DC to different stops along the course to cheer me on!

It was an amazing experience.  And one I’d like to repeat…but the chances of that happening with little people around is slim. Really, none. (Perhaps when they are older…training for a marathon with little people around takes more time and commitment than I have to offer right now.)

Half marathons will do. They are my thing.

I’m back to hitting the pavement and have run several miles this week.  Tomorrow I’ve got my final long run before the half marathon in a few weeks. This is what my Saturday will look like.

Bible Study. 10 mile run. Drink water. Eat. Stretch. Eat. Epsom salts bath. Drink water. Stretch. Sink into the couch. Eat. Drink water. Stretch. Another Epsom salts bath. Eat. Drink water…

(You get the idea. Most of the day will be centered around this long run…and now you see why training for longer than a half marathon would prove difficult!)

I have made the Commit to Fit Pledge. Have you?!?

If so, then this giveaway is for you. It’s for $100. 100 bucks. 100 smackers.  For you to invest in your fitness goals.

For me, it was the half marathon entry fee.

For you, it could be a series of 5K entry fees. Or a gym membership. Or Zumba classes.

This money is to help you reach your personal fitness goals.  (Please note, proof of purchase will be required before your reimbursement can be sent. Winner and I will work out all those details. Failure to show proof of purchase in a timely manner will result in a new winner being chosen.)

I have worked out for over 20 years and at 60 my goal is to stay active and healthy. I would use the money to renew my gym membership.

  2. Kristen says

I have a fitness goal to run a half marathon in April of 2011. I just had my second child and I want to get the rest of this baby weight off and get back into my running routine. I would use the money for a new pair of running shoes and if there is enough the entry fee for the half marathon in April!

  3. Michaela says

Oh, that $100 would pay for a membership to Curves…..I love the workout there as an older adult…..

  4. says

I still need to get back in shape from having my 3rd child. This one has been the hardest! I have virtually no tone anywhere, and feel really out of shape. I actually bought a fitness dvd set that I started using, but my shoes are awful. I would use the $100 to buy new shoes, for sure! If there was any money left over after that, I would love to get some shake mix to have before or after my workout. :)

  5. Andrea says

I am running my first 5k on Thanksgiving…a goal of mine for the last several years! Like many others previously mentioned, I need a new pair of running shoes, and as you are well aware, a good pair of running shoes aren’t exactly a “frugal” purchase. I can feed my family of five for almost a month on what my last pair of shoes cost!

  6. Jenny says

As a family, we already decided to forego Christmas presents in order to get a treadmill for our home gym! This would definitely help with keeping my exercise routine up over the snowy winter!

  7. Wilma P says

My goal is to finally lose 20 lbs and get fit. I would use the $100.00 towards a gym membership

  8. Robyn Stottlemyer says

I would use the money to invest in some at home fitness gear. My goal is to lose 30 pounds by Valentine’s Day.

  9. Carolyn says

I would put the money towards a membership at the local YMCA for both me and my teens. It’s been something I’ve been thinking about doing but can’t find the membership fee in the budget right now. Thanks for an awesome giveaway!
