I am lucky, my kids usually always want to help out cooking and prepping, their rewards are usually getting the beaters to lick off the mixes we are making. I can hear everbody now..”what about raw eggs”, blah, blah, blah, but I survived and am here, not going to hurt them.
Clean up, well that’s a little tougher, rewards also, with the dessert ALL cooked and ready to serve, but only if you bring out your dishes, rince them off and put into the washer. The bigger kids have to help out my 2 year old, and they take turns, knowing it is contingent on their turn to reap the rewards.

I’d love to win, it’s too cute!
Entry #2: I subscribe to your feed in a reader and emailed the picture to my husband as a “isn’t this adorable?”
Entry #3: My kiddo is 20 months old, which means currently she helps by staying out of mommy’s way.
I do let her pick out her own bib and “wash” off the table when she’s done. When there are lots of crumbs on the floor she’s the first one to grab the broom.

I would love to win this Land of Nod – Breakfast in Bed Play Set it would be so awesome.
I couldn’t wait to tell my SIL and my DIL, they both have little ones that are just learning the kitchen too.
My 18 month old son loves to “help” in the kitchen.
He helps with the dishwasher loading and unloading and helps set the plates on the table.
But his favorite thing to do is “mix” things in his own special bowl with his own utensils. He has a spatula and mixing spoon. He also loves to make sure mommie has plenty of pots to use by taking ALL of them out of the cabinet and giving them to me.
We even made him his own little chef apron to wear while “cooking”.
We always make sure to use at least one plastic dish so there’s something for him to help rinse off before they go in the dishwasher.

I would love to win this for my three young ones.
What I cute playset! I’d love to win this for my kids!
Me too! I want to win!
My 3 year-old helps with meal preparation time by getting the ingredients out of the pantry and waiting for all the timers to go off and telling me so we know when things are done. Her last helpful step is to open the gate from the living room to the kitchen so that her 1 year-old brother and sister can come into the kitchen to be put in their high chairs for dinner time.
My son is 2.5, so he’s limited in how he can help. He’ll stir ingredients for me. He can tear lettuce up for the salad. He can also tear the leaves off of fresh herbs.
Our plates are breakable, so he currently does not set the table. For cleanup, he throws the napkins away and brings his (unbreakable) dishes to the kitchen. After snacks, he puts his cup and snack bowl in the dishwasher.

I told other child care providers and parents about this.
My kids like to set the table and fill the dishwasher. They are too young to know it is work yet. LOL
I had my kids color a placemat picture that had all the dishes and utensils on it and then I got them laminated. They were then able to help set the table with no trouble! I have 4-year-old twins that want to help out all the time but it was very stressful to have both of them in the kitchen wanting to cook at the same time, so every Sunday one of them gets to pick all the meals for the day (including dessert) and help me cook! My kids love it and I get special one on one time with each of my kids (which is hard to do with three of them!).
I’d love to win
I think that my best “tip” has been teaching my kids while they are little the blessing of working together in our family and how we bless each other by serving whether it’s prep or clean up.
I’d love to win!
I tweeted (@CentimentalOne).
I’d love to win, pick me!
I don’t have to do anything to get my kids to participate, they all beg to help!
My son is 20 months old, so we haven’t had him involved much in meal prep or clean up. He is asked to go “wash” before meals and he brings the dog her kibble before we eat – does that count?

My son is 11 months old, so I don’t have any tips. However, I wipe down the table with him still seated so that he can see what we do. (& will hopefully help out when he is able.)
I want to win!
I emailed all my friends.
My kids love to help in the kitchen. They love to set the table and help me mix things, like muffins or pancakes. You just have to make it fun and try not to rush them, and they will enjoy the time you spend together.
This would be great for my son. I’d love to win!
I wanna win this one, too! What fantastic giveaways you have this week!
Thanks!
Best way to get them to help, start as young as you can, especially when they start showing an interest in helping — even if their help means you end up doing twice the work in the long run! My 2 yr old loves to sweep, and puts away the utensils, and helps me set the table, and he folds (sort of, lol) the washcloths and towels. For now, he asks to help and gets excited when I ask him – helping mom is it’s own reward. He’s my oldest, so we’ll see what happens when it is no longer fun, but becomes a chore…. lol
I would love to win this for my kids!
