It appears that the Great Pumpkin Shortage of 2009 is over!
I have spotted both generic and brand name pumpkin in my store. And many of you are reporting that you pumpkin is on the shelves in your stores again!
Of course, you can use real pumpkins (I suggest the smaller, sweeter “pie pumpkins”) to make your own puree! Tutorial here.
Cans or fresh…either way, it’s time to get your pumpkin ON!
Amy from Amy’s Finer Things has compiled an EXCELLENT list of pumpkin recipes from around the blogosphere…from panckes to breads to soups to cakes and desserts. If you are looking for some new ideas and recipes to try…then head on over and start browsing!!! I do believe the Pumpkin Pecan Pie Bars will be made in my kitchen soon!
I know you’ll find something to try!
Thanks for compiling this fabulous list Amy!!!

Although I have seen pumpkin in the stores, I haven’t yet found it on sale. But I started baking with fresh pumpkin weeks ago.

@Alea,
I’m waiting for the sale to stock up too! And might pick up a pie pumpkin in the meantime!

Erin,
There doesn’t seem to be any pumpkin shortages here in TX, so y’all can make a trip down here if you want to stock up
I have 7 big cans in my pantry right now.

I just made a pumpkin sheet cake with cream cheese frosting over the weekend. First time I ever made frosting. Turned out great. I will have to head over to Amy’s and check out the list she has compiled.

I found canned pumpkin today in a bigger discount store. I forgot to look at my small grocery store (central Oklahoma,) but lately if they have had any pumpkin at all it’s just been a FEW cans of Libby’s pumpkin pie filling. The store brand was .85¢. I think Libby’s was $1.19 for the small cans. Those are of course their everyday prices. I’m just glad I have had found some finally. Pumpkin bread here I come!

ugh i’m bummed..my grocery store still doesnt have any..not one can of puree or the pumpkin pie mix..nothing..so i basically just used a butternut squash that i had on hand to make some “pumpkin” bread..it turned out great..not sure how that would translate into a pie though.

We have plenty-o-pumpkin here in Central Indiana.
I wonder why we’re so well stocked here? Local produce? Though I’m not sure who the state players are in pumpkin farming.
I’ve made 6 loaves of pumpkin bread this weekend, and the kids are begging for pumpkin cookies.

That pumpkin shortage was all just a hoax to get you all out and buying!
