by Erin, The $5 Dinner Mom on August 9, 2009

UPDATE: This giveaway is now CLOSED!

Winner is #149 – Christy J., whose husband is GF and looking for something new to try! Congrats Christy!!!

le veneziane spahetti giveaway Gluten Free Pasta Giveaway CLOSED!

One winner will recieve three boxes of GF (gluten free) pasta from DiPalo Selects!  Winner will receive 1 box each of Le Veneziane gluten free Fettuccini, Penne, and Tubetti.  These pastas are brand new to the US, and don’t even appear on their website for sale!  We are getting an exclusive look and opportunity at these great new pastas!

Here are the specs on this new corn pasta from Italy:

“Produced in the corn producing region of the Veneto, Italy, Le Veneziane pastas are made with nothing but water and cornmeal, which lends them their vibrant yellow color. Designed specifically for those with a gluten intolerance, Le Veneziane cooks up al dente, just like classic pasta.”

I’ve not tried any type of corn pasta, but would think it would add not only a fabulous color, but also a unique taste to any pasta dish!  So if you’re GF, if you know someone who is GF, if you have thought about going GF, then here’s your chance to try out some new pasta noodles!!!

OMG thank you so much for such a great blog and now a great giveaway. I have switched my son to a gluten free/fiengold diet. I have seen such a big difference in his behavior and still continue to see a change.

I actually think it tastes better than regular pasta.

Thank you so much for your great recipes and now this great giveaway.

Pasta, from Italy, made gluten-free? That’s the pasta trifecta :) We’d love to try something new in our gluten-free home!

Cooking gf pasta is tricky, you really NEED to read the instructions first! Some, like rice pasta, cooks super fast and turns to a ball of mush really easily. Others, like spelt or quinoa, cooks longer then regular pasta.

Entry #1: Leave a comment just saying you want to win. OK Here goes…..YOU want to win (I do too).
Promoted it…. (will promote) by telling other G.F. stores in my area (There is a Cook-n-Take style Store/Bakery near us).

The Trader Joes has Rice Pasta that is quite good if you don’t over cook it. I like the Spaghetti.

I am so Impressed with Italy as they test all kids by age six (I heard). This way they find “celiac” people early. Good Eating!

#3. I’ve never cooked corn pasta before, so it will be something to learn. But, I have added rice noodles to soups and made a type of sweet-n-sour chicken using rice noodles. I like that they simply have to soak in hot water. What I think will be good about corn pasta is that, as a diabetic, whole grains are better for me; so I think these will be another option in enjoying a pasta meal instead of having to give up pasta all together.

I would love to try this for myself, but would also like to pass it along to a friend with celiac. Thanks for the opportunity.

Would love to win! My DIL is celiac, and I’d love to cook some pasta for her!

Reply

Cindi H. August 10, 2009 at 2:05 am

My cooking tip would be to NOT over cook the pasta! Cooking times are different for gluten free pastas, and they can be nasty if mushy and over cooked!

Reply

Pat August 10, 2009 at 4:07 am

This would be a terrific product for my 10 year old daughter who has celiac’s disease and just loves pasta!

Erin, I am so glad I found your blog. I just recently subscribed so I wouldn’t miss your posts…but I’m all about being frugal and making the most of your dollar for dinner. Your site is awesome for that!
As for this pasta, I’ve recently gone gluten-free, and this would be great!

#3 – My helpful hint on GF pasta – read the instructions carefully! I haven’t made too many GF pastas yet, but some mention that you have to rinse the noodles afterwards, some state they need the water to all be taken out of them prior to saucing. As for these noodles, with what I would imagine would be a slight corn taste, I bet they’d be wonderful with a Italian-meets-Mexican type of dish…perhaps a salsa verde-type sauce? Mmmm!

I’d like to win. This product looks like one that my husband and I would enjoy!

As part of not cooking the gluten-free pastas too long it is important to drain them very promptly and thoroughly.

Our favorite (up to this point) is the Tinkyada macaroni noodles. They are very close to “real” noodles. They make great mac ‘n cheese, but I’ve also used them for all my other pasta dishes as well, since they are our favorite. They hold up well and don’t get mushy or fall apart. For this brand specifically, don’t go by the cooking time on the package. They only take 10 to 11 minutes to cook.

I would love to win! I have never tried gluten-free products, but hear they are fantastic and HEALTHIER!

I am the queen of left-overs! We take our left over pasta and warm it in a frying pan with a little olive oil. We then put in a little soy sauce and serve it with what ever Chinese dish I am cooking that evening…

I wish I had a favorite, but have not tried this brand before.

I love pasta – it is a staple in our home and I have just started trying gluten free. I had heard about the Italy thing and testing of children. Would love to win. Thanks – I read your emails everyday first thing. Also good to start the day with great information. I have about 3 friends that I forward all of them to. Thank you!!

Entry #3 I have found that cooking GF pasta according to directions on the box/packaging is the trick. I once put our noodles in when the water wasn’t quite boiling and we ended up with a big old pot of goop…nasty stuff. Our family is big fans of Mrs. Leepers pasta. We really like the tuna noodle casserole. Yum-o!
