We used organic jonagold apples and freshly squeezed lemons. They disappeared in no time. Our grand-daughter calls them 'candy'. Every weekend is now spent making this treat.

My husband and i spent some quality time together in the kitchen making this wonderful snack. I have had this great stove for a few years now that I know I have not used to it's full potential. After reading quite a few books on different dietary lifestyles (raw and GF to be exact), I have seen a lot about this dehydrating thing and thought I had to buy one. My oven is split in two, with the bottom having a proofer and dryer. It even came with an extra small part that keeps the convection fan going but the light off while the door is slightly opened. It goes down to 140degrees. Any idea how hot a dehydrator actually goes? Anyway, we love apples and this will be a nice way to try them without the sugar of store bought brands.
Thanks so much.

This post couldn’t have come at a better time! I am posting a link to it on one of my blogs. Here is the link: http://islandtearoom.wordpress.com/2009/06/27/honey-sweetened-dehydrated-apples/ Also, I noticed some people with questions about dehydrating without a dehydrator. I have done apples before in my oven, which at that time only went as low as 150 degrees F but have heard of people doing it in ones that only went as low as 200 as well. For 150 degrees, I found that about 4-5 hours was ideal. Also, I found this link where they offer some hints and instructions for drying apples with a dehydrator, an oven, or outside in the sun. I put all this on my blog post but just in case anyone here is also interested I won't make you travel there to see it lol.
